Cross section of a horses lower leg/foot which shows
the horses ligaments and tendons. The horse has no
muscles below the knee and so his lower leg is held
together by a group of tendons (hold bone to bone) and
tendons (hold muscle to bone). There is much strain on
the ligaments especially in gallop and when too much
pressure is applied the ligaments (normally the
suspensory ligament) gives way which is sometimes
irreparable.
